Miele celebrates a production milestone, 83 years in the making
40-millionth vacuum cleaner leaves Miele’s Bielefeld, Germany production facility a hero.
Bielefeld, Germany and Princeton, NJ – February 2010 – Miele, the world’s leading producer of quality vacuums, hit yet another milestone in mid-February. Just weeks into the New Year, official production of Miele’s 40-millionth vacuum cleaner was achieved and like the millions before, it departed the company’s main floor care production plant in Bielefeld, Germany. Following a special ceremony the celebrated vacuum left Miele’s central vacuum cleaner facility a hero and was donated to a local mission organization.
“My great-grandfather [and his partner Reinhard Zinkann] began vacuum cleaner production in 1927, a quarter-century after they began the Company in 1899,” remarked Dr. Markus Miele, Coproprietor and current Managing Director of Miele & Cie. “The mantra remains today, what it was then… Immer Besser.”
The German household appliance giant has a 110 year history operating under a rigorous, quality/durability standard that is admired throughout the industry. The German phrase, Immer Besser – or Forever Better, is, according to Dr. Miele, “a duty and challenge for each employee of the Company and is a directive to always think, create and produce appliances and technology that are better. Better than other brands and better then what we at Miele have previously accomplished.” Clear evidence of this is Miele’s strict adherence to a 20-year life design protocol which allows the Company to buck many industry trends… producing appliances that outperform and last longer than others. Miele’s long heritage of innovation dates back to the use of Bakelite in 1927 to make vacuums quieter, the advent of integrated tools and brilliant colors in the 1960s and the introduction of the world’s first HEPA-certified vacuum cleaners in the late 1990’s.
“The growing popularity of Miele vacuums in the U.S. market made a substantial contribution to our 40-millionth production milestone,” remarked Nadine Gast, Senior Product Manager for Miele in the United States. “In particular, recent innovative products like our S7 upright series have earned high marks in leading consumer magazines with its unique SwivelNeck™ that provides maximum agility. Our filtration system is unrivaled for its advanced Sealed System™ technology – which is proven to safeguard indoor air quality. With this momentum, we look forward to celebrating the next production milestone of 50M units soon!”
